Intel Core i7 processor powers innovative embedded PC solutions
By Peter Lippert, Lippert Embedded Computers
This article introduces a new embedded PC family based on the latest Intel Core i7 processor and the QM57 platform controller hub (PCH).
The largest manufacturer of X86 processors, Intel, has for many years employed a tick-tock strategy when introducing new CPU generations. The tick introduces a new, smaller production process, and is usually followed a year later with a tock, implementing a new CPU architecture. Officially launched on January 7, 2010 at the International CES 2010 trade show in Las Vegas, was the Core i7, the newest addition to the Intel Core series of processors (Core i3, Core i5, Core i7). The Core-i-series of products is the 32-nanometer version of the Nehalem microarchitecture, formerly known as Westmere. The Nehalem kernel with 32 nm structure size fits into the Intel tick-tock strategy, being a tick, a smaller production process...
