Flash memory diagnostic tool for Compact Flash Cards
This White Paper is presented by MSC
Particularly industry, CF (Compact Flash) cards are widely used storage media as in industrial PCs and PLCs. But life-time of flash memories depends on specific physical conditions and principal effects. Therefore MSC has developed the FMDT (Flash Memory Diagnostic Tool), which easily allows an estimation of CF card lifetime with given conditions inside a particular specific user application.
CF storage cards are in spite of HDD, SD, MMC and other media very common in both, end consumer products such as digital cameras, handheld devices and in various industrial areas. Particularly in industry, CF cards are widely used storage media as in industrial PCs and PLCs. Main criteria for storage devices are reliability, availability, data integrity, insensitivity and undisturbed usage.
Storage media, based on flash technology, depend on specific physical conditions and principal effects. The result is the wearout of storage cells and at least reduction of lifetime. Significant conditions, among others are the principle construction of flash cells, manufacturing processes, environmental conditions like temperature, supply voltage, amount of data, file size, number of read/write cycles and of course the operation in the respective application...
