With the trend that microcontrollers are becoming more and more commodities there is also a trend to increasing availability of free opens source tools for embedded microcontrollers. This talk will give an overview of free or open source tools for microcontrollers, the motivation behind these offerings and respective trends. In particular the author will outline the Infineon strategy for free tools for microcontrollers and will provide a short demo of DAVE Bench, a platform for free and easy to use tools and SW.
